Collaborating with Geologic Time (at Ash Point Preserve)

  • Ash Point Preserve 477 Ash Point Drive Owls Head, ME, 04854 (map)

In partnership with the Langlais Art Preserve , artist and stone carver Sam Finkelstein will invite us to discover sculptural forms that lay dormant within the rocks along Maine's coast. There will be an emphasis on viewing this exercise as a collaboration between artist and nature as opposed to an imposition of internal concept onto external material. Using clay to simulate reductive stone-carving techniques will inform ways of thinking about texture, scale, volume, space, movement, light and shadow.

NOTE: This workshop is free and open to the public. It will take place at Ash Point Preserve in Owls Head.

  • This workshop involves a 0.8-mile round-trip hike on narrow, uneven terrain and additional hiking along the rocky coastline.
